Hi, I’m Mick Herbert, a Guitarist
and Guitar Teacher now living in York.
I was born in Middlesex in 1948 and
have played guitar since I was 12 years old. I started my first band
when I was 14 called “The Time” with Clive, Dave, Andy and
Freddie. We played our first gig at “The Co-op” hall in
Enfield Highway. I believe our second gig was at Cheshunt Boys Club,
followed by a regular booking at the Waltham Cross Club in Hertfordshire.
I then moved on to a band called, The
R.B.U. (The Rhythm & Blues Unit) – and the rest, as they say,
is history. I have been fortunate to play with, and support, a number
of recognised singers and musicians during my life. I now teach and
play for pleasure.
When I was a beginner, one of the biggest
problems with learning the guitar was finding a good teacher, or other
musicians who want to practice songs with you. Not only do you need
the right mix of instruments, you also need the right mix of skill levels
so everyone is having fun. It was this one factor that made me take
up teaching and to pass on my skills and knowledge to others.
